MCC Lubbock Welcomes
New Interim Pastor!

 
 

 
Rev. Anthony Thieman-Somora

 

Metropolitan Community Church of Lubbock welcomes its new interim pastor, the Rev. Tony Thieman-Somora, on Sunday October 13, 2013.

Rev. Tony has been a pastor for over twenty years and comes to Lubbock from Illinois where he has been the pastor at Heartland MCC for the past several years. Rev. Tony holds a B.S. in Personnel Administration (organizational psychology), a Master of Divinity degree specializing in spirituality and spiritual direction from the University of St. Mary of the Lake, a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Mishawaka, Ind., and a certificate in relationship and family therapy from the Meninger School of Psychiatry and Mental Health Sciences. Rev. Tonny also is one of the recipients of the 2012 New Church Start Award from Metropolitan Community Churches.

Rev. Tony has been a past in-service education specialist and management development specialist for the University of Texas Medical Branch. He also worked in the area of Hospice with Northwestern Memorial Hospital Home Hospice in Chicago, IL where he was one of the few non-nursing personnel where he received a nursing award for his support of the nurses in the program. Rev. Tony also was asked to write, present and tape a webinar last year through the Department of Aging in Illinois entitled “Understanding Mental Health and Mental Illness in the Aging Community and Dealing with Difficult Clients. Rev. Tony’ s skills include volunteer management and utilization, pastoral counseling, training and development and consultation in developing team building on boards and leadership teams.

Rev. Tony and his husband Tony Somora celebrated their Holy Union at MCC Greater St. Louis in 2006 and were legally married in Iowa in 2009.
