Who
We Are
MCC Lubbock is affiliated with the Universal
Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches which is a denomination
of approximately 300 churches in seventeen countries throughout
the world. Our fellowship was founded in 1968 by Reverend Elder
Troy Perry and eleven other men and women in a living room in Los
Angeles. Our membership includes people from all denomination backgrounds
and beliefs. We strive towards an inclusive attitude in our worship
as an example of acceptance towards all people.
Our
History
MCC Lubbock was founded in 1980 by a small group of people. They
were seeking to begin a church where people could worship in freedom.
MCC Lubbock grew from meeting in a living room to a sanctuary that seats
approximately 200 today. We continue to be a church for all people and
strive to provide an open atmosphere to learn of God's love.
Our
Vision
The Vision of Metropolitan Community Church of Lubbock is
to be the "Hub" of the GLBT community reaching West Texas
and Eastern New Mexico with the good news of Gods inclusive
love. By 2005, Metropolitan Community Church of Lubbock, with a
membership of at least 250, will reflect the diversity of our community.
As the "Hub", we will be the spiritual resource center,
equipping Gods people for ministry with excellence and passion.
Uniting together in Christ, we will provide an open atmosphere of
worship, which will foster pride, acceptance, and hope by celebrating
the dignity and worth of all people.
Our
Commitment
We are committed to meeting human need in the name of Jesus Christ.
We strive to be a loving Christian community which provides a place
for worship, educational programs, ministries to meet people's needs,
and social interactions with other Christians. Many find that God's
love truly dwells in our congregation both inside and outside the church
building.
What
We Offer
MCC Lubbock celebrates communion at each Sunday service.
We hold an open communion -- open to all, regardless of personal
or religious background. Baptism is embraced by the church as a
sign of dedication of one's life to God. The Sacrament of Baptism
can be administered by total immersion, sprinkling, or pouring of
water.
We
also offer the celebration of six rites: membership, holy union or holy
matrimony, funeral or memorial service, laying on of hands, blessing
of a relationship, and ordination. If you have any questions concerning
these, please contact the church office.
